Staff Psychologist (Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program)

  • Perform assessments and interventions within Tomah's MH RRTP and professional consultation services throughout the Mental Health Service Line (MHSL) and associated specialty MH coverage areas.
  • Provide a full range of proactive, integrated, comprehensive outpatient MH care that is recovery oriented and evidence-based, including: screening and assessing for psychopathology, cognitive deficits and problematic health behaviors; brief, short-term, and long-term psychotherapy in individual, couples, and group formats; and supportive therapy services for Veterans requiring a lower level of care and/or longer term assistance.
  • Mental health assessment and treatment services will be provided in both face-to-face and telemental health modalities, and will emphasize evidence-based and best practice approaches.
  • Provide education regarding a Veteran-centered recovery model, and work with Veterans to help set SMART therapy goals and work towards recovery and discharge to a lower level of care. This individual will function as a full member of both his/her MH RRTP.
Work Schedule: Various shifts, 0730-1600, 0700-1530, 0800-1630

Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Proficient in spoken and written English.
- Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) in a specialty area other than school psychology OR
doctoral degree in any area of psychology and in addition, successfully completed a respecialization program meeting the following conditions: (A) The respecialization program must be completed in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program; and (B) the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must coincide with the assignment/position. (please provide transcripts) OR
a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution, with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature.
- Internship: Completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed. OR
Completed a new VHA psychology internship program that was in the process of applying for APA accreditation and was sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time I was an intern. OR
Completed a full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internship at a VHA facility prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979). OR
Completed an internship that was not accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed, however currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment/position. OR
Doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature. In addition, completed the equivalent of a one-year supervised internship experience in a site specifically acceptable to the candidate's doctoral program.
- License: Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. (individuals who do not possess license can be hired as a Graduate Staff Psychologist at the GS11 or GS12 grade level).
Grade Determinations for Staff Psychologist at the: GS-13: Possess at least 2 years of progressive experience as a psychologist. In addition, able to demonstrate the following KSAs:
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply, professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations.
- Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
- Knowledge of clinical research.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
