Psychologist CLC

The Employee provides a variety of psychological services including psychological assessment, diagnosis, brief cognitive evaluations, and treatment to the long-term geriatric Veterans residing in the Community Living Centers (CLCs). Consultation is also provided to the CLC team. Provision of services will be conducted primarily through individual and/or group psychotherapy.
The Employee will serve on the CLC team as a member of an interdisciplinary specialty team. The psychologist will consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. In addition to these primary responsibilities, the incumbent may provide consultation or program oversight, be involved in program evaluation, training, educational activities, and other duties as assigned.
Duties:
- Conduct screening, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders with an emphasis on geriatric populations.
- Administer, score, and review rating scales, questionnaires or other measurement based tools in an effort to assess emotional, functional or psychological conditions as well as establish Veteran-focused, individualized, treatment planning.
- Administer and/or evaluate results of a full range of psychodiagnostic, intelligence, or personalities assessments and tests. The incumbent will utilize interview data, comprehensive assessments, and observations in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders.
- Provide psychological prevention services for those at significant risk for psychological problems.
- Screen for cognitive deficits to address specific functional questions or to determine if a referral is indicated for a medical or neuropsychological evaluation.
- Provide psychological interventions to manage pain, disability, address sleep problems, facilitate weight loss, promote smoking cessation, and enhance medical compliance.
- Monitor treatment progress using measurement based tools, and recommending adjustments to the treatment plan as appropriate.
This position may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program, depending on the type of employment, schedule, amount/type of qualifying debt, and funding availability. Basic Requirements:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: The following are the basic requirements and qualifications for appointment as a Psychologist.
Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.
Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time that the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must coincide with the assignment/position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).
OR
Education: Doctoral degree in any area of psychology and in addition, successfully completed a re-specialization program meeting the following conditions. (A) The re-specialization program must be completed in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program; and (B) the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must coincide with the assignment/position. Transcript and/or certificate documenting the completion of the re-specialization program are required.
Internship: Must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed -OR-- successfully completed a new VHA psychology internship program that was in the process of applying for APA accreditation and was sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time I was an intern -OR-- successfully completed a full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internship at a VHA facility prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) -OR-- have not completed an internship that was not accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed, is considered eligible for hire if you are currently board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment/position. NOTE: Once board certified, the individual is required to maintain board certification. Include internship on resume or provide certification documents.
English Language Proficiency: Must be Proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. (COPY OF LICENSE REQUIRED).
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, in addition to meeting the basic requirements, you must have the experience requirements at the GS-12 level, at least 1 additional year of experience as a professional psychologist at the GS-12 grade level, and hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e. g. Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. In addition, demonstrate the following Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSA):
KSA 1: Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations.
KSA 2: Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
KSA 3: Knowledge of clinical research literature.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e. g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e. g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary and is usually accomplished while the employee is comfortably seated at a desk or table. Some walking and standing may occur in the course of a normal workday in connection with attendance of meetings and conferences, or while researching files. Items carried typically are light objects such as briefcases, notebooks, and data processing reports.
NOTE: Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and unpaid, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, students, researchers, volunteers, and trainees who work at these facilities. HCP that are unable to receive or otherwise decline a flu shot will be expected to wear a face mask throughout the influenza season.



Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
